ARTIST STATEMENT

I am OJOS MAGNÍFICOS. A spirit soul. A fractal of source.

My vessel + experience is Brown, Andean Indigenous Diasporic, femme, MILALMAS, Genderfull, Androgynous. 
I am  North Andean, Colombian bogota born, Miami raised, & Baltimore-based. 

My work is created with the intention to communicate clearly, emotionally and spiritually with the audience. The ideas and concepts within my work are explored through: Ancestral Tattoo Ceremonies, videos, paintings, critical theory, performances, art installations, text, audio, graphic design and illustration work.

Through my multidisciplinary practice, I am focused on creating spiritual & physical decolonial ancestral portals for shared, transformative, collective healing.

My practice aims to honor the sacred knowledge found in Black, Brown, Indigenous decolonial survival & culture, in order to realign our collective spirit.
We can leap towards our ancestral/authentic selves:

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Maria Del Pilar (PILI) Lopez-Saavedra/PILI OJOS MAGNÍFICOS (They/m)
is a Colombian Bogota born, Miami raised, Baltimore-based artist.  

In 2015, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS graduated from Miami Dade New World School of the Arts High School.
In 2015, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS began their 5 year college journey at The New School - Parsons School of Design, to pursue a  BA/BFA Dual Degree in Art, Culture & Business. 
In 2017, PILI OJOS MAGNÍFICOS was featured in Colombia Fest Arte Joven and New Women’s Space’s Decolonize Your Body group show in Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was awarded an MFA scholarship through a finalist position in PAFA’s 2017 exhibition Crosscurrents.
In 2018, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS finished an internship at LGBTQ / HIV+ Archival Organization Visual Aids in Chelsea, NY. Also in 2018, they were featured in Parsons BFA Junior group show, FIRE IN THE WET LAB.
PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was featured in various zine/magazine publications in 2018 including: NUMiNOUS Magazine: Taboo Issue, I Don’t Do Boxes: OUTlaws Issue, Reciprocal Art Mag, Molcajete Zine: A YEAR UNDER FASCISM.
Following Their first artist talk at El Sotano Art Space, PILI OJOS MAGNÍFICOS co-curated "Sentades en Silencio", a Latine/x indigenous group show centered around the theme of silence within/surrounding Latine/x indigenous communities which took place at The New Women’s Space in Brooklyn, NY. 
In 2019, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was featured in Mujerista Collective Zine Issue 3: Soy Mujerista, SPICY ZINE ISSUE 001, InQluded Issue 3: Break Borders & Binaries.  
In 2019, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was featured in group shows: MI GENTE, Performance is ALIVE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL GOOD, Shades of Eternal Night, In Honor of Our Roots @ The Legendary Langston Hughes House, God’s Pride: In Our Own Words, the Raices & Roots Festival, and “Remember Us” a group show benefitting NYC media collective Hydro Punk.
After Graduating with a BA/BFA Dual Degree in Art, Culture & Business, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was featured at the 2019 Parsons AMT Exhibition and The 2019 Parsons BFA Thesis Show.
In 2020, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was included in DECOLONIZING GENDER a queer BIQTPOC group show held at The People’s Forum. They were also part of the 2020 - DownBeat Collective.
From 2020-2021 PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS had the honor of Spirit Tatu Residency at AKTIV8 Underground Private Ceremonial Tattoo Studio. 
In 2021, Lopez-Saavedra was part of La Sala's LGBTQ+ Uptown Voices Project.
From 2020 - 2022 PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS was the Creative Director/ Album Consultant for Queer Colombian musical icon Manchado, together creating the world of their upcoming album: “PANORAMA".
From 2020 - 2024 PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS has been the Creative Director/ Album Consultant/ Songwriter for the voice of the revolution, Queer Boricua Dominican Legend Santana Sankofa, together creating the world of their upcoming album: “ASHES”.
In July 2022 - 2024 PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS began their Tatu Residency at Baltimore Queer Trans owned Community focused Tattoo Shop, Fruit Camp.

Maria Del Pilar (PILI) Lopez-Saavedra/PILI OJOS MAGNÍFICOS (Elle)
es un artista colombiano nacido en Bogotá, criado en Miami y viviendo en Baltimore.
En 2015, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS se graduó de la escuela secundaria Miami Dade New World School of the Arts.

En 2015, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS comenzó su viaje universitario de 5 años en The New School - Parsons School of Design, para obtener una doble titulación BA/BFA en Arte, Cultura y Negocios.

En 2017, PILI OJOS MAGNÍFICOS se presentó en Colombia Fest Arte Joven y en la exposición colectiva Decolonize Your Body de New Women’s Space en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Además, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS recibió una beca MFA a través de un puesto finalista en la exposición Crosscurrents de PAFA 2017.

En 2018, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS finalizó una pasantía en LGBTQ / VIH+ Archival Organization Visual Aids en Chelsea, NY. También en 2018, aparecieron en el programa grupal Parsons BFA Junior, FIRE IN THE WET LAB.

De 2020 a 2022, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS fue el Director Creativo/Consultor del ícono musical Queer colombiano Manchado, creando juntos el mundo de su próximo álbum: “PANORAMA”.

De 2020 a 2024, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS ha sido el director creativo / consultor de álbum de la voz de la revolución, la leyenda dominicana queer boricua Santana Sankofa, creando juntos el mundo de su próximo álbum: “ASHES”.

En julio de 2022 - 2024, PILI OJOS MAGNIFICOS comenzó su residencia de Tatu en el taller de tatuajes Queer Trans en Baltimore que esta centrado en comunidad, Fruit Camp.
